Hi folks,
I've just been taking a week long break from the models. I'm also awaiting a new video card for my computer so it will likely be at least two more weeks before I resume the building.

Resolute Desk

I made this desk over a year ago. All I did was make it more efficient which meant cutting the old desk in half, and pasting the . . . I won't get into the details.

Finished Crown Molding

Here is the completed crown molding and ceiling along with the seal of the United States.
In some spots intersecting with where doors or windows have been cut into the wall there are angular shadings that appear, making it slightly unsightly. There seems to be no way to control this.

Oval Office End Table Redo

While looking for photos of the Oval Office table lamps I found a much better photo of the end table itself that indicated more inlays I hadn't seen before. So I did a quick redo of the end table as seen here. The stain has been redone with a Washington Cherry finish along with the addition of the inlays on the table legs. It doesn't take long to do minor changes like this.

Sketchup Tip #2 - Profile Edges
When making models the default setting is that the profile edges
are showing. In the first photo you can see that many of the edges are comprised of thick black lines. Even as you zoom away from the object these thick blacks lines retain their thick appearance.
In the second photo you can see the steps you can take to remove the profile edges so that the models look cleaner, even if you zoom away from it.
I don't recommend turning off the
profile edges until you are finished building a model. Seeing profile edges assists you in understanding where your lines have not actually connected with a component, join, or surface .

The Day The Eath Stood Still / Superman
I was inspired today to make up a quick model of the famous scene
from The Day The Earth Stood Still.

Several months ago I was also inspired to recreated this model of Superman's Fortress of Solitude.

Oval Office End Table

Sometimes it's so hard to nail down what a piece actually looks like in detail. This is my best guess of what the Oval Office end table might look like.

Oval Office Table

I understand that this is what the table behind the Resolute Desk has looked like in the past (especially during the Reagan era) that presidents have used for their most prized family photos and such.

Coming Though the Rye

Thought I'd work on this sculpture early. It's Coming Though The Rye by Frederic Remington. It has been seen in photos of the White House ground floor center hall however recent photos show that it's on display in the vice president's office.

Oval Office Color

The more I looked at the color of the Oval Office walls (as it looks in this model) the more I disliked it. Although photos show it with a soft yellow appearance, sampling that color and applying it to walls in Sketchup make it far too strong a yellow. So in keeping with the color referred to in the White House Cabinet Room tour this is a color I think will look better. It gets away from the yellow look but I think it's a better balance. Thanks to Jim for finding it.
